What is e-Bumi

e-Bumi is about taking a tour of the world through a virtual space plane. It provides a total new and exciting experience for the users to learn about the globe. It is a virtual globe program that maps the earth by the superimposition of images obtained from satellite imagery, aerial photography and GIS 3D globe.

The application mainly seeks to bring in the Google Earth into classroom through customization that caters local school Geography syllabus and to bring in excitement to students while learning Geography. The followings are the objectives of the e-Bumi project: -

• To provide tools for inquiry, communications and construction in related to Geography
• To provide a customized and localized Google Earth that enhance teaching methodology in schools
• To provide a collaborative portal that brings together a group of students that enable them to exchange information that are relevant to their studies and surroundings
• To provide access to e-Bumi through a training lab in respective schools
• To provide a technology-enhanced method for educators to teach Geography related subjects in schools

The e-Bumi project is fully sponsored by Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) with the cooperation of Mysosial Malaysia, a NGO incorporated in Malaysia. Ultimately the project aims to use e-Bumi as a supplementary teaching tool in classrooms throughout Malaysia. The project will be kicked off in a secondary school in Kuala Lumpur as pilot site. During this period, it is expected about 200 teachers will benefit from this project. In return the teachers can bring the idea to respective schools and harness the potential in the classroom.
